Privacy Policy
Overview
Nuri helps users scan food products, build shopping baskets, save shopping trips, track patterns, manage dietary preferences, and ask focused ingredient questions. This policy explains the information Nuri may collect, where it is stored, and how it is used.
Information you provide
- Account information when you sign in or create an account.
- Dietary preferences such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, low sugar, low salt, ultra-processed avoidance, and allergen avoidance.
- Saved baskets, shopping trips, manually entered prices, and product notes.
- Manual product submissions, including nutrition label values and optional product photos.
- Questions you send to Ask Nuri. Nuri does not save Ask Nuri chat history in this version.
Where information is stored
- On your device: Nuri stores active basket data, saved trips, recent scans, dietary preferences, onboarding state, and manually entered basket or product cost information.
- In Nuri cloud services: When you sign in, Nuri may sync saved shopping trips and manual product submissions to Convex so account-backed features can work.
- Shared product cache: Product lookup information, such as product name, barcode, ingredients, nutrition, additives, and environmental signals, may be cached as shared product data. This is not treated as personal shopping history.
Information from product data sources
Nuri may use third-party product databases and product-label information to show ingredients, allergens, nutrition, additives, processing indicators, images, and environmental signals. Product data can be incomplete or inaccurate, so you should always verify the pack label.
How information is used
- To provide product assessments, basket guidance, history, and insights.
- To personalize guidance based on dietary preferences.
- To operate account access and sync features.
- To provide AI-powered ingredient explanations when you use Ask Nuri.
- To improve product coverage and data quality.
Service providers
Nuri uses selected service providers to operate the app:
- Clerk for account creation, sign-in, and authentication.
- Convex for app backend storage, cloud sync, product cache, and manual product submissions.
- OpenAI to generate Ask Nuri ingredient explanations when you use that feature.
- Apple for App Store distribution, in-app purchases, subscriptions, and payment processing.
- Product data sources such as product databases and product-label information providers where available.
These providers process information only as needed to operate the app features. Nuri does not sell personal shopping history or dietary preference data.
Ask Nuri and AI processing
When you ask Nuri a question, relevant product data, your question, and your dietary preferences may be sent to Nuri's backend and then to OpenAI to generate an answer. Ask Nuri is designed as an explanation layer, not a medical or allergy safety service. Nuri does not use Ask Nuri questions to build a public user profile and does not save chat history in this version.
Product photos and manual submissions
If a product is missing or incomplete, you may submit product details and optional photos. These photos are used to review and improve product coverage and data quality. Avoid including people, payment cards, addresses, or other personal information in product photos.
Health and dietary information
Dietary preferences can be sensitive. Nuri uses them to personalize product and basket guidance. Nuri separates regulated allergen information from user dietary preferences and does not provide medical diagnosis, treatment, or allergy safety guarantees.
Data retention
Local app data remains on your device unless sync or account-backed features are enabled. Account-backed data may be retained while your account is active or as needed for legal, security, or operational reasons. Ask Nuri chat history is not saved in this version.
Your choices
You can edit dietary preferences in the app, avoid saving baskets, delete Nuri app data from Settings, and contact support for account or data questions. Deleting Nuri data removes local app data and, when signed in, cloud-synced Nuri trips and manual product submissions linked to your account. Shared product cache data may remain because it is not personal shopping history.
